Inter-individual differences in brain morphology Lead Investigator: Christopher Madan Institution : Boston College E-Mail : madanc@bc.edu Proposal ID : 730 Proposal Description: Despite robust age-related differences in brain morphology, many other factors also influence brain structure within healthy aging. Here I will utilize a multivariate machine learning approach to assess the relative influence of age, cognitive, lifestyle, and genotypic risk factors on brain morphology. I will be using measures of brain morphology (cortical thickness, subcortical volume, gyrification, structural complexity) to examine inter-individual differences in age, cognition, and health. The brain morphology measures will be calculated using FreeSurfer, complimented by the calcFD toolbox for the structural complexity estimates. The relationship between these brain structure measures and age will be investigated using a novel multivariate regression procedure. After age has been accounted for, cognitive and health variables will be used to explain the remaining inter-individual variability in brain morphology.
